The Company
Wolf Direct Racing was formed initially in late August 2002 by its present owner
as a private individual/sole trader basis to supply a couple of power units for
a friend’s racing Fiat Punto. After a very short period of time word soon spread
about the performance and reliability of these units and further orders came through.
WDR has now experienced some of finest engineering commissions available and with
the wealth of experience from Richard’s 25+ years in the field - from general servicing
of small Fiats to total restorations of 250 GTO Ferrari’s, the engine power plant
development of the Renault Twingo and Clio v6 to installing a twin spark system
on a V12 Jaguar engine for a Hurricane aeroplane replica.
Today WDR has just re-located its entire venture to the brand new Business Park
Premises covering in excess of 10,000 square foot of floor area.
The doors are already open and the company is quite clearly the main “talk of the
town”. No-one in the local area does the same thing as us in any means or form or
on the same scale.
Who are we?
Richard Beaty
Yeah right! That’s him, honest, but about 1cm taller. Richard (41 years young) trained
at his fathers premises (Forward Engineering) building the cylinder heads and induction
systems for some of the most famous Jaguars on the road and racing. Notably his
time at Forward Richard built the “top end “ of the first Lister XJS’s , twin spark
V12 heads that powered a flying Spitfire replica and many of the first heads and
induction systems to power the infamous V12 Jaguars for TWR. In the early ‘90’s
Richard then moved to France where he rested for some 18 years still continuing
his career in the building of high performance engines for Jaguars , Ferrari’s ,
Lamborghini’s etc.
In 2000 Richard returned with his wealth of experience to the
UK and became co-founder of UAD Motorsports of London and created a reputation for
building fast fiat engines and created the 600m and 500m limited edition Fiats,
better known as pocket rockets that Abarth should have made. After a short break
from the motor trade due to illness Richard was commissioned to build a couple of
engines for a friends Race car and low and behold with the success of these units
Wolf Direct Racing was born. Richard has the moto of “If you cant put your name
to it then don’t do it !” (That should apply to the burgers and cigarettes then
!)
Chris Graver
Chris (just a couple of weeks old than Richard !), has been associated with the
motor trade most part of his life (we think he helped with the invention of the wheel). After attaining his sales and management qualifications at Norwich City College
Chris went on to forge his career in sales and managements in the East Anglia region.
After several successful years in high street retail Chris’s love for cars came
to the fore and the decision to combine a career with a life long passion was made.
He subsequently strived and reached management level within the Austin Rover Group
where he acquired diplomas and for field/showroom sales and management. The combination
of this experience and knowledge was the eventual running of his own service station
and workshop which incorporated modern and classic car sales
Tim Smith
Tim began his career back in 1994 at a local publishing house, before moving on
to London to work on Classics magazine and Fast Car Magazine. His involvement ranged
from Senior Sales Exec on Fast Car to organising front cover competitions and being
heavily involved in what was one of the biggest modified car shows at the time -
Ultimate Fast Car at Santa Pod.
After a couple of years Tim moved into the world of Business to Business promotions.
Some of his work involved brokering a number of sponsorship deals with various drivers
including Martin Rowe - then soon to become World Production Car Rally Champion.
From here he was part of the team that ran the very successfull Formula Rally Super
1600 Championship. Duties involved single handedly running event programmes to brokering
sponsorship deals.
A change of career path then led Tim to a major Volvo, Suzuki and Peugeot main dealer
in Suffolk, running the sales side of the Parts Operation.
In 2003, alongside the Parts Sales work, Tim set up Prova Motorsport. Originally
conceived around the idea of providing cost effective test facilities to rally teams
including the Hyundai World Rally Team, Prova went on to arrange an exclusive deal
with the MOD for use of a number of venues within East Anglia. This led Prova into
the world of Track Days and Prova have been running exclusive track events ever
since, and are still doing so to this day. Tim now helps to organise and run exclusive
test and track days with Wolf Direct Racing.
Julian Brown
Julian is our man in the north, he also provides the IT support that keeps the internet
side of our business ticking over. With a career in computers dating back to 1993
he has all the experience any dedicated IT company could need but when he isn't
working on computers he is playing with cars. For the last six years he has been
a regular entrant in the LMA Eurosaloons championship and has brought home more
than the odd trophy to fill our cabinet despite competing with an outclassed production
spec Punto (there's nothing quite like a challenge!)
With the experience in racing Julian provides us with track expertise for testing
and tuition purposes. When you want to learn how to push your car that bit further
on the track or drive it safely on the road this is your man.
